Nowadays people think emailing is outdated like floppy disks.
Do people still use their email? The short answer…Yes.
Email is still around and there’s no indication as of now that it’s gonna be on its way out soon.
And email marketing is still a really powerful way to make money for your blog. It’s actually, in my humble opinion, the best way to make money with your blog.
It’s not out of date like newspaper ads, it actually works.
Here’s the deal…
If you want to make money, you need to know how to collect emails with the most effective list building strategies.
So how do we do that?
In this post we will:
- Figure out how to collect emails with 2 different list building strategies.
- See what you can do once you have an email list.
Let’s get to it.
How to Collect Emails With 2 Different List Building Strategies
Knowing how to collect emails for your list is VITAL. Let’s go ahead and check out the 2 list building strategies I use to collect emails.
List Building Strategy 1: Sumome Popup With a Lead Magnet
Did you read that??? What the heck is a “lead magnet”? A lead magnet is something you offer for free in exchange for an email.
See, it’s not literally a magnet…but it is an email magnet.
Here’s how the strategy works:
Step 1: Download the Sumome plugin and design a popup with really good, convincing words (this is called copywriting and I have another post on how to write copy that you can see here) that make someone want to get the free lead magnet (ebook, course, etc.) that you are offering.
See how the copy makes the newsletter seem really valuable and how the button says “The best button you’ll ever click…” instead of “enter” or “sign up”?
Once you have a really good popup you need a way to give people their free ebook once they give you their email.
Here’s how I do it:
- Make a page on your site that isn’t on your navigation menu and only has the downloadable ebook on it.
- Put the URL to that page as the destination page in your Sumome popup.
Step 2: Keep Your Email List Engaged With Frequent Emails That Have Value.
I’ve already gone over this in a previous post so I’ll spare some words and give you a link to it here.
List Building Strategy #2: Create a Landing Page With a Lead Magnet
So yeah…lead magnets are the most important part of building an email list. They really can make or break the process here. This is slightly different from the first strategy, but is much more effective if your followers want to see social proof (testimonials).
Step 1: Create a Landing Page Using a Tool Like LeadPages With Good Copy That Promotes Your Lead Magnet.
This is the same basic thing…you’re giving your lead magnet away for an email address, but this time you have a whole page dedicated to it that you drive all of your traffic to.
What makes a good landing page???
Great converting landing pages….
- Are short and simple
- Are visually appealing
- Have awesome and convincing copy
- Always have a call to action that asks for an email address in return for something you give away for free.
Step 2: Continue to Email Your List and Eventually Try to Sell Something.
This is the same as the first strategy so here’s the link to how to write good emails again.
What You Can Do With an Email List
A really good and large email list is basically a machine you can use to print money (legally) whenever you want.
That’s because people who give you their email are much more likely to buy something from you, especially if they loved your lead magnet.
That’s why everyone talks about how important email lists are. They make you money.
But don’t forget…
You have to continually give your email list really valuable stuff for free and show them that you are genuinely interested in their success.
Email them at least once a week with really helpful tips and information, along with updating your blog.
Ready to Print Money on Command?
This is not a joke. Email lists are money printing machines for your blog. Just ask Jeff Walker the creator of the Product Launch Formula…he makes his living from his email list.
Knowing how to collect emails with these list building strategies can turn your blog from just a hobby to a really awesome source of income.
